This fall, Pro Bono Net's Pro Bono in New York Webinar Series presents a lineup of online trainings designed to ease the uncertainties of taking on pro bono work in a new area of practice. The series, which begins Oct. 5, will feature monthly, one-hour webinars on topics such as adult guardianship, uncontested divorce, foreclosure prevention and adoptions. Each webinar will be conducted by attorneys from legal services agencies with experience working with - and providing support to - pro bono attorneys.

The first webinar in the series will take place at 2 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 5, and is presented by the Family Law Unit of the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). It will cover matrimonial law, with a focus on the changes in divorce proceedings brought by New York’s new No-Fault Divorce Law, which was signed into law by the governor in July of this year. Attorneys from NYLAG's Family Law Unit will walk webinar participants through the process of representing low-income clients in uncontested divorce proceedings, and Pro Bono Net staff will show participants how to access support materials, sample pleadings and pro bono opportunities on www.probono.net/ny.

The Webinar Series will continue later in October with a special Pro Bono Open House, presenting four pro bono programs in and around New York City in honor of the second annual National Pro Bono Celebration Week (October 24-30). This will be followed in November by a presentation by the Brooklyn Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer's Project on Article 17A guardianship proceedings for individuals with disabilities.
